devotional altar... is an ever-changing altar making practice in the lineage of assemblage and found object artmaking. it is ancestral veneration. a temporal practice in which handwoven altar cloths, handmade books, and meaningful objects are assembled, deassembled, added, removed, and otherwise choreographed in reverence to present moment needs. recycled synthetics are purposefully paired with natural materials.
many of the unconventional materials woven into the cloths and composed on the altar were given to me by loved ones, including burned matches graciously kept and given to me by friends.
cloth techniques pictured: waffle weave, summer and winter, and hand-manipulated lace (leno)
